Since the early 2000s, Christianity Explored has been a trusted gospel resource for reaching adults using the Gospel of Mark. Did you know that you can now use Mark’s Gospel to reach young children?
Epic Explorers is a relatively new addition to the Christianity Explored range, specially designed for children age 4-11. The five flexible sessions can be used for a Vacation Bible School, backyard Bible club, mid-week children’s activity, or as a way for a family in your church to reach out to neighborhood children. Epic Explorers takes children through Mark’s Gospel as they explore the life of Jesus together. On the way, they will discover who Jesus is, why he came, and what it means to follow him.
The Leader’s Guide contains a wealth of information to help you use this resource, including session outlines, talks, Bible discussion groups, and a wide range of linked games, crafts and activities. There are also suggestions for family events to help you build links with parents as well as their children.
Last year, I heard about an eleven-year-old boy in Indiana who invited some of his unbelieving neighborhood friends to meet with him once each week to look at God’s Word using Epic Explorers. He gave each friend an Epic Explorers sketchbook. It was a great learning experience for the boy, as he had to read the lesson, prepare it, plan it all out, and then lead his friends through it. The material is easy to use, as we see from the fact that this eleven-year-old was able to do it. His friends enjoyed it. They said that they learned more from him than they learned whenever they went to a church.
Epic Explorers has also been used in more formal group settings. Here is a story of a church that used Epic Explorers two years ago for mid-week children’s program. Here is a story of another church that used Epic Explorers three years ago for Vacation Bible School.
