Updates from Uruguay

Billy King has traveled annually since 2014 to an expanding network of countries in Latin America to provide training conferences in evangelism through Christianity Explored. These conferences are for both pastors and lay leaders. From 2014 to the end of 2017, he has trained a total of 1100 attendees, including 275 pastors, in 7 different Latin American countries. Billy and his wife, Janet, just returned from his most recent training conferences in Uruguay and Chile.

The conference in Montevideo was held on a Friday evening and all day Saturday. It was hosted by Iglesia Evangélica Mennonita Shangrilá in the city of la Costa, Uruguay, a suburb of Montevideo on the northeast side.

Uruguay is the most secular country in South America with a population of 3.4 million people. According to Operation World, “Catholicism may lay claim to 55% of the population, but only 2.3% attend Mass.” Evangelicals are a tiny percentage of the population.

Thirty people attended the conference, including at least six pastors. Those in attendance had a strong interest in evangelism and some of the pastors were already familiar with Christianity Explored. They were especially grateful for the videos and materials provided. We provided the recently translated Study Guide and Honest Evangelism plus every participant received a flash drive containing the Christianity Explored videos and a copy of the CE edition of the Gospel of Mark. This was the first showing of the new voiced-over DVD of the latest edition of CE and it was very well received.

It was a small step, but an important one, for the effort of spreading the gospel in Uruguay.

In the video below, missionary Andrew James explains why Christianity Explored is a useful resource for Uruguay.
